Our favorite STEM resources!

If you know us at all, then you know that we ❤️ LOVE ❤️ to collaborate!

In fact, one of the things we love the most about the Engineer in Residence program is that it is NOT prescriptive with content. Volunteers and teachers are supported with recommendations – but they are empowered to put their own spin on things, come up with their own activity ideas (or use ours as inspiration!), and tell their unique stories.

So, collaborate is key for us to stay innovative and support the EIRs in the best way possible.

In the spirit of collaboration and sharing, we thought we’d share some of our favorite, go-to’s for STEM resources and activity inspiration.

To get started, you can access the EIR program guide, and links to sites that we love. We are always adding and updating this information becomes available.

And did you know that there are a BUNCH of great organizations that are contributing some great STEM experiences (activities, programs, etc.) for FREE?!? Organizations that have received CanCode grants are great resource! And the full list is available for all to see ☺️

Here are a few more favorites (in no particular order!)…

  • VROC (Virtual Research On Call) (free)
  • Canada Learning Code – free lesson plans
  • Kids Code Jeunesse (free) – Code in the Classroom workshops provide hands-on learning, centered around computational thinking and block-based coding
  • Inksmith – Kits & lesson plans to use with MicroBits. They have great messaging that integrate the UN Sustainable Development Goals!
  • FIRST Robotics – a robotics competition that goes above and beyond!
  • Water for the World – Students build water filters, but it also integrates some interesting learning about finances, GDP, literacy rates, etc.
  • Hackergal – focus on encouraging girls to code.
  • Let’s Talk Science has a tonne of great resources and programs available (most are free!).

Enjoy! And please let us know if you find at STEM resource that you love so that we can share ☺️
